Our Commitment to Sustainability

Did you know that it can take up to 1000 years for a plastic bottle to completely break down?

The world’s population consumes 1 million plastic bottles every minute of the day.
Worse of all, 90% of plastic bottles used aren't even recycled and end up in landfills across our planet.

Plastic bottles that don’t end up in landfills end up polluting our oceans, killing our environment, injuring, and killing marine animals.

At least 10 million tons of plastic end up in our ocean each year.
It is even said that the Great Pacific Garbage patch covers a surface area of 1.6 million square kilometers, which is three times the size of France!

Our planet is choking on plastic.

You’ve all heard Mother Earth’s cry for help - it is now time to give back to our planet.

Here at Lunae Active, we care for our planet. So we thought, what better way to save Mother Earth than to save her through style and fitness. Our goal is to be as transparent as possible with you. At every stage of our process, we handpick every detail with love and care so you don’t have to choose between sustainability and quality.

We endeavor to embrace and bring about the best practices in production and sourcing of materials - reducing the environmental impacts of fast fashion using recycled materials and designing products to last, with the intention of reducing harm to our environment.

Ideally we would like to close the loop on fast fashion, for our clothes to be repurposed or recycled, over and over again. We are in the midst of developing our textile recycling program so we can use your used Lunae’s to make new ones - stay tuned and reach out to us if you have any suggestions or on how we can work together!

Our Fabric

Plastic waste, including PET bottles, is quickly becoming a global environmental and social issue. If we don’t take the initiative to be better, our oceans could contain more plastic than fish by 2050.

Our Core Collection fabric is crafted from 100% recycled fiber made Repreve recycled nylon, produced from post-consumer waste, such as carpets, and plastic bottles. It is composed of 77% recycled nylon and 23% elastane, performs exactly the same as virgin nylon but gives you a sustainable edge, turning trash into treasure.

For every kilogram of Repreve material produced,
62% of energy conserved,
99% of water is saved,
35% of waste is avoided,
20% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions as compared to virgin nylon.

Best of all, the need for crude oil, refinery, and chemical extraction is not required. Its fabrication requires plastic PET bottles that are collected, washed, sorted, chopped, melted, and reformed into new polyester chips, ready to be extruded into long filaments.

Our recycled fabric has been certified by the Global Recycled Standard (GRS) so you know our commitment to truth in our materials in support of a circular economy to reduce waste. Our recycled fabric is also certified Oeko-Tex Standard 100. With this, you can be sure that our fabric has been tested for any harmful substances and are harmless to human health. We’re telling you this because we want you to know exactly what you’re putting on your body, stress-free!
Truth be told, all synthetic activewear is made from plastic, we just make ours with materials that would otherwise clog landfills and pollute the ocean.

Breathable, 100% sheer-proof - to squat and stretch with ease
Muscle compression - perfect for your daily low to high impact activities
Soft as butter - for extra comfort

Believe it or not, no one is going to believe you when you tell them it’s made from recycled plastic bottles.

Manufacturing

Our Repreve fabric is sourced from the USA, and our garments are sewn in our partner factory in Bali, Indonesia under ethical conditions that adheres to the strict regulations on treatment of employees, waste disposal and sanitation. They guarantee fair wages, safe and healthy working conditions for everyone. They also offer rehousing and education, partnering with local charity - Bali Street Mums - dedicated to helping women and children who are typically homeless and living off rubbish dumps.

Besides being known for its volcanic mountains, iconic rice paddies, beaches and coral reefs, we chose to manufacture in Bali after the realization that the best manufacturers for high-performance fabrics are located overseas. We would have loved to manufacture this locally but we found that the only machines up to the challenge were in our partner factory in Bali.

We have enjoyed working with them from start to finish, not just because of their experience, but because they understood the importance of quality that we have emphasized from the beginning - with our premium activewear, we just want to make sure we are giving you the best for your money’s worth. Besides, who doesn’t like Bali?

We have also decided to avoid using any “plastic” garment bags - whether it was biodegradable, compostable or not - for any of your orders.

Dye & Finishes

Our fabrics are dyed with eco-friendly dyes, approved and certified by OEKO-TEX® and GOTS, the Global Organic Textile Standard, protecting the future of our planet. The raw materials used to produce the dyes are harvested in an environmentally and socially responsible manner.
Each and every part of our supply chain has been carefully assembled over many years to be as environmentally friendly as possible.

Waste

Making clothes creates a lot of fabric waste.
We want to continuously turn our fabric scraps into something new.

We are currently working on a few exciting fabric scrap projects, and we can’t wait to share this with you soon!
